Wedding Speech Preparation
The First Step in Wedding Speech preparation is knowing what needs to be said. It is vitally important to know what you need to say in your Wedding Speech. For each member of the Wedding Party who will give a Speech the outline of the content of the Speech will slightly differ. For example:-
The Father of the Bride will include these topics in his speech.
- Welcoming the Wedding guests and show appreciation for those guests who have traveled a long distance to attend the Wedding.
- Welcoming family elders (grandparents or great Aunt’s and Uncles) It is respectful and appropriate to mention the elders of the family from the Bride and the Groom.
- Thank you to the Mother of the Bride’s effort in regard to organizing the Wedding celebration.
- Share a heartfelt story about his little girl and how he is proud of his daughter, the Bride.
- A special welcome to his new son-in-law and the groom’s parents to the family.
- Funny or serious advice offered to the Bride and Groom about how to achieve a happy and long marriage.
- Proposing a toast and well wishes to the couple at the end of his speech.

Writing a Draft Speech & Practice
The second step once you know what the content is expected to be is to write a Wedding Speech draft. This can be in your own words or can be copied from other Wedding Speech Templates. By far the easiest option is to copy from templates or Sample Speeches and you can add your own individual thoughts to these easily.
The third step is to practice your Wedding Speech. You can practice on your own, in front of a mirror or even record your speech to see how it sounds. It is perfectly acceptable to have notes written on small cards or even a piece of paper to refer to when presenting your speech so don't worry about leaning the whole thing off by heart.
Wedding Speech Feedback
It is really important to get some feedback once you have your speech prepared and practiced well enough to present it to a friend or family member. Many people make the mistake of not having their speech heard until the Wedding Reception. What is written down on paper might look good but may loose understanding or be open for alternative interpretation when presented via the spoken word.
Choose a freind or family member who you trust will be honest with you and give you constructive criticism. Your speech will be heard by all ages. It needs to be understood by everyone and keep in mind that there may be elderly people and/or very young children at the reception, so keep your jokes "G" rated.
Other Wedding Speech Tips
- Don't consume alcohol until after your speech, only sip the champagne on the Wedding Toasts. You can celebrate later!
- Before the Wedding Day, practice your Speech at least twice a day.
- Speak clearly and with purpose, those up the back will not hear you if you don't!
- Take your notes with you. Even if you know your speech well a prompt can make all the difference.
- Think of it as a fun way to share how you feel about the happy couple and enjoy!!
